MELASMA • PIGMENTED LESIONS
MELASMA * BROWN SPOTS * SUN SPOTS * AGE SPOTS * FRECKLES
Melasma and Pigmented Lesions are caused when skin cells produce too much melanin within a localized area. Most develop with exposure to the sun. Sun damaged skin is very common due to outdoor lifestyles. All areas of the body can be treated. Treatments on the face, neck and chest, (especially the V and chest in women), as well as the tops of hands and the forearms are most popular and achieve incredible results. Keratosis on the scalps of bald men disappear, leaving the skin smooth and the men looking younger and healthier.
Patients can expect improvement after just one treatment. One session will often result in the clearance of darker lesions. Lighter pigmented lesions may require 2 treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart.
A warm, tingling sensation is felt as the laser targets the dark pigment and selectively heats and destroys the lesion. Adjacent non-pigmented skin is not affected.
After the treatment, the lesions darken, sometimes form a crust and start lightly peeling or exfoliating within 5-7 days. Some redness may also occur but it gradually fades away. The skin appears natural–the effect is dramatic.
Treatment with the PicoSure Laser has little down time with minimal post treatment care. Following treatment an aloe gel or moisturizer is applied to soothe and moisturize the skin. Patients should always use a daily broad spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or greater.
Men and women can have pigmented lesions on various parts of the face and body. While they can be easily treated, they should be evaluated by a medical doctor to rule out malignancy before treatment begins.
